OBAMA 2008!!!!
hurray!
I am extremely disappointed in those that supported Obama... up until it was actually time to vote. By either just not going or falling victim to the "Bradley effect" (I didn't know that was actually possible, but thank you all for proving me wrong), you did a disservice to yourself and to the country. I'm also disappointed in all the Facebook "status updates" about how Obama is a terrorist, he is going to kill babies, and small businesses won't be able to function under his tax plan.
Wake up America. Abortion is already legal, it isn't going anywhere. Obama is trying to HELP small businesses, not hurt them. In my opinion, if you're making $250k PROFIT (not revenue), you can pay more taxes. That is a lot of money. Why would you NOT pay more money than people that are making $10-50k a year?
It's also offensive that people assume that some voted for Obama just because it was the "cool" thing to do and that we should "regret" it and that "in 4 years, we'll see...".
What?
I'm sure some people did that. Whatever. You may have voted for McCain because your parents did. You may have voted for him because you couldn't imagine a black president in office (I live in South Carolina, I heard this at least 15 times yesterday). Most people don't follow the issues like they should before making an educated vote. That's democracy. Oh well.
But to say that is why everyone voted for Obama? Please. Some of us actually followed the issues and have been following Obama's career since he was elected to Senate in 2006. Some of us have been following John McCain since he ran in 2000. Some of us are political science majors and do this everyday of their life. But that's mostly just me.
Everyone that voted has an equal say in the outcome. I commend everyone that voted and I'm truly sorry if your candidate didn't win. I would be equally upset if McCain had made a victory speech last night instead of Obama. But, America, it didn't happen. I keep hearing how a vote for Obama wasn't "patriotic" and it wasn't "a vote for the country".
Guess what is patriotic? Guess what is good for your country?
Supporting your president-elect. He WILL be your president. He is now a world leader (and the world overwhelmingly supported him over McCain). On January 20, 2009 change will be coming to America. Show some respect to people that support him and show respect for the democratic process.
